Basic schematics of our alternator systems wired to a generic piece of equipment are available in our Engine/Alternator Replacement Guide (PDF).

Our Ignition/Starter System Diagram (PDF) displays the proper wiring of a typical 5 Pole Switch Starter.

In addition to wiring diagrams, Alternator Identification information, Alternator Specifications, and procedures for the replacement of an older Briggs & Stratton engine with a newer Briggs & Stratton engine that utilizes a different style alternator (output connector) are also available in this guide.

Diagrams for our liquid cooled engines are also available:

  • 3/LC Diesel Alternator Diagram

  • 3 L/C Gas Manual Choke Diagram

  • 3 L/C Gas Electronic Governor

For a more detailed schematic specific to your piece of equipment, your best source of information would be the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). For a directory of manufacturers who sell or service Briggs & Stratton powered products for home, commercial, professional, or industrial use, please visit OEM Directory.

Click to Visit the Repair Manual Section!

A good source for electrical system testing/troubleshooting as well as other servicing information/specifications would be a Briggs & Stratton Repair Manual (Lookup Manual by Engine Model Series).
